James Grant LaBar

Associate Attorney

J. Grant LaBar, is an attorney with experience in complex litigation, including jury and bench trials. In jurisdictions around the country, Grant practices in the areas of toxic tort, environmental tort, environmental contamination, product liability, and multidistrict litigation. Through his practice, Grant has gained considerable knowledge and experience in chemical exposure cases involving polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and glyphosate-based pesticide formulations.

Prior to joining Frazer, Grant earned his law degree from Gonzaga University School of Law, graduating with honors and receiving the Pro Bono Distinction Award. Before Gonzaga, Grant obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon. Outside the office, Grant enjoys skiing and spending time at his family’s ranch in Central Oregon.

Representative Cases

  • Member of Frazer’s trial team representing former schoolteachers who developed permanent adverse health effects from exposure to PCBs against Monsanto, Bayer, Pharmacia, and Solutia in the District of Vermont.
  • Member of Frazer’s trial team representing over 90 Vermont school districts for abatement and remediation of PCB-contaminated school buildings against Monsanto, Pharmacia, and Solutia in the District of Vermont.
  • Member of Frazer’s trial team in Durnell v. Monsanto et al., resulting in the first plaintiffs’ verdict in the Roundup litigation outside the State of California and in Monsanto’s home state of Missouri. Durnell v. Monsanto et al. is pending on petition for a writ of certiorari before the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS).
  • Member of Frazer’s trial team representing individuals who developed the rare blood cancer non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma due to long-term exposure to the formulated glyphosate pesticide known as Roundup against Monsanto and Bayer in Missouri state courts, the Northern District of California, and the Northern District of Illinois.
  • Member of Frazer’s trial team representing individuals who developed various cancers and other adverse health effects due to long-term exposure to the cancer-causing chemical ethylene oxide released from a nearby chemical plant.
  • Counsel for individuals, school districts, and Native American Indian Tribes against JUUL and Altria entities in the JUUL litigation. See In re JUUL Labs, Inc.   • Counsel for individuals who developed various cancers and other adverse health effects due to long-term exposure to PFAS, PFOA, PFOS, and related chemicals against DuPont, 3M, Chemours, and others. See In re: Aqueous Film-Forming Foams (AFFF) Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2873 (D.S.C.).
  • Frazer is counsel for 45 federally recognized Indian Tribal Governments in the opioid litigation against Purdue Pharma, AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, McKesson, Johnson & Johnson, among others. See In re: National Prescription Opiates Litigation, MDL No. 2804 (N.D. Ohio).
